For Pacifica, the title of their sophomore album, “In Your Face!” isn’t just a name; it’s a promise. In just a few short years, the emerging Argentine rock duo has built a global following, selling out shows everywhere from London to Tokyo.
A true modern friendship story, Inés Adam and Martina Nintzel were first connected by a mutual online follower who noticed their shared love for The Strokes. The spark was immediate. What began as bedroom covers quickly turned into live tribute performances, eventually evolving into a duo that’s all but guaranteed to land on your FYP or your next favorite playlist. Their sound blends post-punk rebellion with the emotional vulnerability of ’90s alternative rock.
In this interview with Pacifica, we chat with Inés and Martina about the inspiration behind “In Your Face!,” released via TAG/The Orchard, connecting with their fans, and what’s next for the duo.
JUICE BOX: Congrats on the release of your new album “In Your Face!” Why did that track stand out to you as a title, and how does it encompass the story of the record?
PACIFICA: Thank you so much! The title “In Your Face” really encapsules the themes of this album. We wanted to be more personal with it – show ourselves more. It’s bold, it’s strong, and it’s also funny and a little immature. It’s kind of the perfect title. Then the song “In Your Face” has all of it too – it’s inspired by a very funny hookup situation, but at its core it shows tremendous vulnerability.
JUICE BOX: What inspired the focus track “Indie Boyz,” and what was the writing and production process like?
PACIFICA: For “Indie Boyz,” we were in LA for a whole month. We had a kind of party phase, which is so not typical of us, but we were enjoying it and decided to write the song to capture that moment. We did everything with Sean Silverman in his studio in LA, and honestly, it was the most fun time we had while making the record.
JUICE BOX: Why is it important for you to balance heavier themes like heartbreak and betrayal with humor in your music?
PACIFICA: We like to balance heavy feelings with humour because that’s just the way we experience life. We go through hardships, make mistakes, and laugh about it. It’s important to laugh at yourself a little.
JUICE BOX: You made your first album in just six months. What was it like getting to take your time with this one over the past two years? How did that change the experience compared to your debut?
PACIFICA: Honestly, it feels super rewarding having gotten to spend more time on this one. We took a really long time writing before anything and were really picky with which songs got on the record and which didn’t. A lot of fans have noticed that, actually. We feel they like the album as a whole way more than the last one.
JUICE BOX: What’s your favorite memory from making this project?
PACIFICA: I think our favorite memory while making this record has to be showing the songs to our friends while driving around LA and having them be so hyped about it — that’s when we knew it was really something special.
JUICE BOX: You’re about to head out on tour with “In Your Face!” You started out doing YouTube covers from your bedroom; what’s it been like going from that to performing on global stages?
PACIFICA: We are absolutely obsessed with playing live. Creating something from our brains and seeing it come to life in front of a loving audience is the most rewarding experience. Coming from our past of YouTube covers, we feel incredibly lucky to have been able to translate our internet audience into real life. It’s amazing.
JUICE BOX: Which songs from “In Your Face!” are you most excited to perform live, and why?
PACIFICA: The one that’s really fun to do live is “Indie Boyz.” The audience goes crazy for it.
JUICE BOX:You first met as Strokes fans doing covers. How does it feel now to see people singing along to your songs and even covering them?
PACIFICA: It’s a wild feeling for sure. Having been such die-hard fans, we really empathize with fandoms in general, and that’s why we always take time after our shows to say hi to everyone who comes. We understand that it’s the most important bond we have other than each other.
JUICE BOX: And finally, what’s next for Pacifica?
PACIFICA: This year, our goal is to tour, tour, tour: festivals, opening shows, and headline shows. We want everything live. This last year we’ve spent preparing a great show, and we can’t wait to play it for everyone we can.
