verygently Debuts New Tracks and Celebrates Upcoming Album ‘Sorry Sarah’ at LA Headline Show

Last Thursday night, verygently played their first-ever headline show at the Moroccan Lounge. The trio — Joey, Tristan, and Drew — continuously thanked everyone who came out that night, admitting they genuinely weren’t sure if anyone would show up at all for a headline show in Los Angeles.

Though verygently may be new to the scene, they already know exactly how to keep a crowd entertained during the quieter moments. There was never a point where the audience wasn’t either laughing at the jokes they cracked on stage or intently listening to the heartfelt stories they shared between songs.

One standout moment came while the band was promoting their upcoming album, “Sorry Sarah.” Tristan explained that the title initially sounds fitting simply because most of their songs are slow, sad tracks about girls. The real meaning behind it, however, comes from a much more entertaining inside joke within the trio. According to the band, when they hired their manager Sarah, she gave them a business card — one they admittedly use in situations they probably shouldn’t. Every time Sarah tells them to stop, they come up with another excuse. Still, the trio never listens, and whenever they decide to use the card, they apparently exchange a knowing look before collectively saying, “Sorry Sarah,” as they hand it over.

Another crowd-favorite moment came when the band explained how verygently formed from what Tristan described as a savvy group of individual “sad boys,” all of whom were making music on their own before coming together. However slow and emotional fans may think verygently’s music is, the trio joked that their solo work was somehow even sadder. “The universe said, let’s put three sad boys together and raise the BPM by 10,” Tristan laughed.

According to the band, verygently came together in a hectic and almost accidental way. They had only briefly talked about becoming a band when an artist they looked up to asked them to fill an open spot on his tour. Not wanting to say no, they stretched the truth just a little about already having released music together. That moment ultimately led to the creation of their first EP — a collection of archived songs written long before the trio had even considered officially becoming a band.

verygently may still be a new name to many, but the trio already knows how to put on a memorable show. Their music feels relatable to anyone who has experienced love, heartbreak, or the complicated emotions that come with both. Throughout the night, they played a mix of fan favorites including “SIR, THIS IS A WENDY’S,” “UH-HUH,” and “LITERALLY JUST A GIRL,” while also debuting unreleased songs that had never been performed live before.

The next time verygently comes to a town near you, they’re definitely worth checking out. In the meantime, give them a listen on Spotify and keep an eye out for their upcoming single, “STRONGER THAN THAT,” releasing May 22.
