Tash Sultana Turns Boston’s MGM Music Hall Into Their Sonic Playground

On June 6, MGM Music Hall in Boston became Tash Sultana’s sonic playground. The multi-instrumentalist and genre-defying singer-songwriter commanded the stage with an effortless blend of musicianship and raw authenticity, captivating fans from the very first looped melody.

Sultana’s set served as a masterclass in live looping. Each layer from the guitar, to the keys, and saxophone was built in real time, creating intricate, textured melodies. The crowd was visibly mesmerized with their bodies swaying to each constructed melody.

Interestingly, Sultana didn’t address the audience until halfway through the set. When they did speak, they opened up about leaving their record label, stressing that the decision was liberating and they have not looked back since. “Trust your gut,” Sultana advised, connecting this personal leap towards a broader philosophy of manifestation: achieving your goals requires reverse-engineering the destination and taking small, deliberate steps toward it.

The rest of the setlist flowed seamlessly from one song to the next, including one standout moment when Sultana performed “Jungle.” The song erupted with an electric energy, prompting the entire audience to jump in sync.

By the final encore, a performance of “Blackbird,” the crowd was left both enthralled and inspired. A feat that was a true reflection of Sultana’s unique ability to create sheer magic with their loops and undeniable passion for what they do.
