It’s a tale as old as time: a hot blonde enters the music scene, presents herself as a boundary-pushing provocateur, and cements herself in Hollywood history. Only an elite few have come to accomplish such a task, and now, they’re joining forces.
After an undeniably dazzling performance on the Coachella main stage this past April, where Sabrina Carpenter brought out Madonna for a stunning duet of Madge’s hit “Like A Prayer,” the two have joined forces yet again for their new single “Bring Your Love.” If only they’d added Britney Spears to the mix, they’d have completed the blonde bombshell trifecta.
The track is reminiscent of Madonna’s greatest hits (which my mother so lovingly forced me to listen to growing up), serving as the perfect lead single for the “Vogue” legend’s “Confessions II” album, out July 3rd. Its disco-based, dangerously danceable beat is hard to not get lost in – even if you’re only used to Sabrina’s toe-tapping, pop-country flair.
While this isn’t Madonna’s first rodeo, it is Sabrina’s first disco; the pint-sized pop star has never put out a track quite like this, leaving her country twang behind in favor of an eighties affair. The collaboration bridges the gap between generations, allowing new fans to experience Madonna’s work, and connecting mothers and daughters (and all fans in between) with the music they both loved during their youth. There’s a magic in seeing your mother’s eyes light up when you sing along to her favorite tracks, but now, they can be yours too.
In an industry that’s constantly pitting women against each other, it’s wonderful to see two strong icons working together. Provocative, powerful, and immensely talented, these two keep proving that the power truly is in the hands of the pop princesses.
