“This is a love song for a girl, who will never know it’s about her”
If those lyrics sound familiar, you have probably watched one of the 275.3k TikTok videos using the sound.
The band behind the 2015 hit now gone viral is indie-rock band Joy Wave, who just released their Arista label debut “What Lovers Do.”
The lo-fi track explores, “a playful cat and mouse game, the push and pull of a complicated relationship, and a rumination on the perpetuity of love.”
The release is accompanied by a music video directed by Duck Smith. The visual pairs the message with the metaphor of a free versus a caged bird.
You can catch Joy Again performing this new single during their 3-day residency at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn, NY on December 20, 21 and 22, as well as their US tour supporting Snail Mail in April 2022.
