On the heels of the recent success of their single “Bed on Fire,” featured on the soundtrack for Amazon Prime’s Off Campus, G FLIP has set out on a multi-city tour. On Thursday, those lucky enough to snag a ticket to one of the hottest shows in town, both figuratively and literally, packed the floor of The Sinclair to the rafters.
After revving up the crowd with a stripped-back opening from Vienna Vienna, G FLIP headed full throttle into a 14-song set that spanned all three of their albums, with a focus on Dream Ride.
Wearing a ‘High Hopes” tee, Adidas shorts, and a stripped Indian Motorcycle hat, G FLIP danced between guitar and drums without missing a beat. They even picked up the saxophone for “I Don’t Wanna Regret.” With a discography spanning nearly a decade, it’s no surprise that G FLIP knows how to put on a show, and work up a sweat doing it.
With temperatures outside (and inside) hovering in the 80s, closing out the show with “Bed on Fire” felt especially apropos.
Rolling up the fabric of their shorts to reveal an “Off Campus” tattoo on their right thigh, G FLIP told the crowd, “This little magical moment happened to me this year … a cheeky little hockey show put my song in the show. It was a very horny scene.”
That cheeky little show was Amazon Prime’s Off Campus, and G FLIP revealed that the success that came from the song’s feature is what helped make this extra tour possible. Judging by the way the sold-out crowd roared, that success was anything but happenstance.
In a moment that felt both like a party and a metaphor, G FLIP sang “Bed on Fire” while crowd surfing, as the fans who have supported their music literally supported them, carrying them over a sea of people.
After a banner few months and an unforgettable show, G FLIP proved exactly why they’re one of the hottest acts both off and on campus.
