Since 2016, Nashville-based band Nightly have created catchy and thoughtful indie pop tracks. This year, cousins Jonathan Capeci and Joey Beretta, and drummer Nick Sainato are utilizing that same passion and style to begin a chapter with BMG Recordings.Â
“Summer,†the first track from this new venture, is a laid back song that takes a nostalgic look at memorable summer.
We chatted with vocalist, Jonathan Capeci about the single, what fans can expect from their upcoming debut album, and more.
Who did you listen to growing up and how did they influence your sound?
Historically we’ve all been fans of bands. The Killers, Coldplay, U2, were some of our early favorites, but there is so much cool music out there right now. I have been jamming to Jeremy Zucker’s new record a ton.
How has your music evolved since your debut EP Honest?
Yes. We have more confidence, and feel more free/comfortable doing what WE want to do.
What was the inspiration for your new single “summer
There are so many memories associated with this season for me. I wanted to encapsulate that feeling in a song.
What did the writing process for “summer†look like?
We wrote this song in Joey’s basement in Nashville during quarantine.
Do you usually pull inspiration for your songs from real life?
Absolutely.
If you could set up fans in the perfect environment to listen to “summer,†what do you imagine it looking like?
That’s a hard question. I guess I was channeling these feelings I get of nostalgia and memories tied to a certain time of year.
What do you enjoy most about creating music?
Honestly, the 3 of us just love it. Writing something that we love always makes me feel so good. I love listening to a demo we just wrote while driving home from the studio is the best feeling.
You recently signed with BMG. What can fans look forward to from this new chapter?
BMG has been very supportive and enthusiastic about our music and our vision since day one. We get to work with some incredible people and are very excited to be a part of their roster.
What can fans expect from your debut album, night, love you due out later this year?Â
I think that the collection of songs will feel cohesive, but we have definitely gone some places musically that we haven’t yet. Each song has its own vibe.
What is one quote that you have heard or that you go by that you want to ECHO out to the world?
Trust your gut and pay attention to the people who are fans of your music.
