Built to Last: Midnight Til Morning Shines on ‘Afterglow’ Tour in Boston

Midnight Til Morning first came to life through the hit Netflix series Build the Band, which chronicled the creation of the group from its inception. Now, the quartet consisting of Conor Smith, Mason Watts, Shane Appell, and Zach Newbould, has released their debut EP Afterglow, alongside a global tour with shows scheduled in the United States, Canada, and Australia.

After months of anticipation, the band brought their atmospheric melodies to Boston’s Royale. The crowd was packed with die-hard fans, anticipating a promising and unforgettable evening, eager to hear the new material from Afterglow live for the first time. This night was particularly special because it was the hometown show for Zach. Family and former teachers showed up to support their local rising star.

Midnight Til Morning hit the stage with a fervor that left no room for hesitation. Opening with “Ghost of Us,” a standout track from Afterglow, they immediately set the bar high, blending infectious guitar hooks and sweeping, layered vocals. The track’s driving rhythm, paired with the band’s tight instrumentation, perfectly captured the spirit of their debut EP.

Throughout the evening, Midnight Til Morning navigated their set with a balance of confidence and vulnerability, making it clear that their sound has a rare ability to engage both emotionally and energetically. The setlist, a mix of tracks from Afterglow and covers of Hoobastank’s “The Reason” and Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License,” showcased the full breadth of their musical range.

What stood out most was the palpable chemistry between the band members. There was an effortless unity as they shifted from explosive choruses to softer, more intimate moments. They were clearly having just as much fun with the audience, demonstrated through reading handmade signs and singing “Happy Birthday” to one of the fans.

As the final notes echoed through the venue and the crowd roared in approval, it was clear that Midnight Til Morning had made their mark. Proving that the band isn’t just one to watch; they’re a band to experience.
