On March 26, Hailee Steinfield released her first single “I Love You’s” off of her project due out in May.
The track’s lyrics explore the significance of taking time to heal after a breakup, before opening yourself up to love again. Steinfeld’s experience inspired the song.
“I went through a breakup and did not give myself enough time to heal from that before getting into another relationship. When that second relationship ended it became clear that I needed time and space to heal — I hadn’t given myself that to begin with that first time around. I didn’t realize the importance of that,” Steinfeld recently explained to Entertainment Weekly.
Steinfeld’s track samples Annie Lenox’s 1995 “No More I Love You’s,” a song that shares the similar sediment.
