The past two years have been a whirlwind for Molly Grace. The Boston native was celebrated for her viral hit “F.E.M.M.E.” and has graced the Bonnaroo, Kentuckiana Pride, and All Things Go stages, with headlining shows sprinkled like glitter in between. Many of the songs she’s been previewing onstage are now fully produced and officially released as part of her debut album, which arrived in September, making her Fall tour highly anticipated among her fans. With custom-made coordinated costumes, playful choreography alongside her backup dancers, powerhouse vocals, and lighthearted, interactive ad-libs, Blush Tour showcases Molly Grace at her absolute best.
Before the Blush Tour, Grace posted tour themes on Instagram for fans to gather inspiration for their concert outfits. In Boston, Grace’s hometown, the theme was “Heaven Sent,” aptly named for the fan-favorite Blush track. Sure enough, fans were decked out in halo headbands and ethereal, angelic makeup. Even Grace’s close friends, family, and teachers, who filled the upper balcony of Paradise Rock Club, donned sparkly tops, boas, and Molly Grace merch. Grace’s mom, in a bright pink boa, and dad, wearing a Lovesick Tour tee and matching boa, descended the balcony stairs like royalty to greet excited fans who recognized them before the show began. After a dazzling opening set from Meg Smith and more anticipation, eventually, the lights dimmed, and Grace and her Lovergirls (McKenna Hall and Bella Melius) took the stage.
After performing a few of Blush’s most upbeat, fun tunes like “Lemme,” “Mad At Her Forever,” and “Do Me (Feels So Good),” the audience cheered so loud that Grace was unable to speak over them, and let their ovation continue for a few seconds while beaming back at the room. Eventually, she cut in earnestly, “It’s always a treat when I get to come home.” Later, to the crowd’s excitement, she introduced her song “Red Line,” a song referencing the Boston train line, which she only ever performs in this city. She told the audience, when a fan asked her during the VIP meet and greet if she was going to perform the song, she replied, “duh.” The crowd erupted in cheers once again, and Grace gave the audience a vulnerable, exclusive performance of her Boston anthem. Later, Grace performed a short and sweet acoustic set, sitting in a director’s chair labeled “MOLLY” with only her guitar and no microphone. She performed “Soft (Demo)” as it was recorded, but encouraged fans to sing along, which they enthusiastically did. Grace also highlighted her talented backup singers, the Lovergirls, with a cover of Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten,” giving Hall and Melius each a solo verse to flex their impressive vocal abilities. In addition to every song on Blush, Grace also performed some fan favorites which do not reside on the album, including “Lover (Love Her),” “Lady Lady,” “Woman’s Intuition,” and, of course, “F.E.M.M.E” to close out the show.
While the next few months of touring will surely be just as exciting as her stop in Boston, Grace’s heartwarming, exhilarating homecoming is a night to remember for Grace, fans, and family alike.
