On September 24, Brenn! brought his AMATEUR AT BEST tour to Boston’s Paradise Rock Club for an intimate night that felt like a glimpse into an artist on the brink of something much bigger.
Since releasing his breakout single “4runner” in 2023, the Tuscaloosa-born, Nashville-based singer-songwriter has steadily built a following of his own. He was named to Billboard’s “21 Under 21” list and has landed coveted festival spots at Lollapalooza and Hangout Fest, while his growing presence on platforms like TikTok has helped introduce his music to a global audience.
So, for those packed inside the Paradise, there was something special about seeing Brenn! in a room this intimate. With his momentum continuing to build, it felt like one of those nights fans would eventually look back on and remember when they saw him this close.
The venue proved to be a natural fit for Brenn!’s folk-pop sound. His setlist pulled primarily from his debut album, AMATEUR AT BEST, released via Darkroom Records in June, moving effortlessly between upbeat and stripped-back moments.
Those understated moments revealed the emotional core of the album. AMATEUR AT BEST serves as something of a time capsule for Brenn!, capturing the messiness of growing into yourself as both a person and an artist. Live, those songs carried an even greater sense of vulnerability.
That personal quality extended beyond the music. Brenn!’s natural charisma made the performance feel less rehearsed and more like a conversation between artist and audience. He knew when to let the songs speak for themselves and when to pull the crowd into the moment. The audience responded in kind, singing along.
Despite the tour’s title, Brenn!’s Boston performance proved there was nothing amateur about him.
Brenn! will continue his global tour with stops in cities including Paris, Amsterdam, New York, and Los Angeles, along with select opening dates for Dylan Gossett.
