Grace Cummings Makes a Rare Boston Appearance on ‘Bloodhorse!’ US Tour

On Saturday, September 19, Boston experienced something rare: a U.S. performance from Australian singer-songwriter Grace Cummings. Since 2019, she has played this side of the globe only a handful of times, and judging by the way the crowd locked in, they knew how special the performance was.

Ahead of the headliner, Tyler Ballgame, Cummings took the stage at Brighton Music Hall. The intimate setting made the performance feel especially close and immediate. Her live presence was hypnotic and deliberate, with an almost cinematic quality to the way she commanded the stage.

Her latest album, Bloodhorse!, sat at the center of her setlist that night. Recorded in Topanga Canyon, California, the album was produced by GRAMMY-nominated producer Jonathan Wilson, known for his work with Father John Misty, Angel Olsen, and Margo Price.

Live, Cummings’ raw, commanding vocals breathed new life into those recordings as she moved through a spectrum of pain, vulnerability, and self-acceptance. The quieter moments carried just as much weight as the visceral vocal peaks, creating a performance that never needed to overpower the room to hold its attention.

For a performer who has only crossed the Atlantic a handful of times since 2019, Cummings’ Brighton Music Hall performance felt like a rare glimpse into something special. The night was fleeting, but for those in the room, the experience was indelible.
